Problems with Sophie
So I'm not sure what's going on with her, but she's peed twice outside of her litterbox in the past week. This is VERY unusual for her. She hasn't had an accident since before she was litter trained. I'm not sure what could be causing this, but my first guess was that it's due to the stress of us being gone for 8 days and then me being gone for 5 days. Anybody have any advice about this? Also any advice on how to get the cat piss stench out of my carpet would be welcomed.

If she has up'd her water intake it could also by a UTI or she's just pissed off at you like you said.
Penelope pees whenever anything makes her upset. Since I'm petsitting for a friend while she's in Europe, Penelope has been peeing in my closet because she's mad at me. She has gotten a lot better about not peeing since we got a litterbox that is self cleaning. She used to spray just as a "friendly" reminder for me to clean the box. That cat, ugh!
If you catch it right after, soak up as much as you can with a paper towel and then use a pet carpet cleaner to scrub the rest out. Putting baking soda on the carpet and then vacuuming it up helps some.
If it's after the fact, I'd rent a carpet cleaner. We borrow Steven's parent's kirby vacuum every few months and go over all our carpet.
If it were up to me, we wouldn't have any carpet in the house.
