My shark encounter experience.

Yesterday James and I went shark diving with Hawaii Shark Encounters. I had been nervous about this little outing since he told me we were going to do it, but I figured, hey...I can say I kinda swam with sharks. It was a 15 minute boat ride out to the cage, about 3 miles off shore. Yesterday the water was pretty rough, so the boat ride was not really fun for anyone. Everyone on board was a little seasick by the time we got out to the site.

When we got there, the tour guides told us to look into the water because we'd already be able to see them. They were everywhere! There were so many of them! I really thought I was going to be deathly terrified and chicken out, but surprisingly I wasn't and I just was more excited to get in the cage and see them.

There was a total of 13 people on the boat, 11 divers and 2 captains/tour guides. Since you can only fit 6 in the cage, 1 group had to stay behind and wait for the other group's 20 min dive to finish. At first I really wanted to go first because I thought that I might chicken out if I didn't, but I'm really glad we went second because we got a chance to learn some things about the sharks before we got in the water with them.

While we were waiting our turn, one of the tour guides decided to show us how the Galapagos eat. Yes, he is going to let that shark eat out of his hand!

When we finally got in the cage, the water was FREEZING. You got used to it in about a minute, but when you first get in it's pretty cold! For the first five minutes I just kinda stared at the sharks thinking how cool it was...then I remembered that I was still seasick! So the rest of my time in the cage I was trying to not throw up while still trying to enjoy the sharks.

Here is a shot of my lovely husband...no, he didn't get any pictures of me because he got very camera happy and took up all his pictures before he realized he hadn't taken any of me yet...lol.

So fun!

That's such a great thing to have practically in your back yard!

Wow, that looks awesome! I'm sorry you were feeling sick though (sea sick AND head cold). I'm sure it would've been more fun without that. But I'm glad you DID have fun and enjoyed the adventure!
